Interlacement Series

A series of mixed media paintings - acrylic paint over fabric on canvas.  A gap of time in the creation of the paintings led to more layers of painting - more richness and pentimento.  One theme is fabric and its construction, as I've begun to learn the art of weaving on a floor loom; family relationships and their emotional residue; and as always, reference to life forms and their processes.  In the first nine, look for relationships around the vertical dividing lines (with, against, around, through, etc.).  And then - the Promised Land pair is based on triangles - I began to think of land and maps.

Paintings with Dots

Mixed media on panel; each 24 x 20 inches.  Themes: patterns, textures, systems interlocking.

Paintings - Life Studies

This is a set of studies of color, form, and pattern that I made to prepare for the painted parts of an installation.  They are finished works on their own, though.  Sources are numbering patterns, microscopic imagery, and various kinds of repetitive mark making that imply larger systems - with a sense of interconnectedness.  Size: 14 x 11 inches
