The Japanese magnolia tree is done with blooming. Now it's covered in new, bright green leaves. The fig bush is getting leaves. Close-up of new fig leaf. The pink dogwood tree's flowers are opening. The snowballs on the snowball bush are still green, but they are getting large. This bush is about 12 feet high. Close-up of snowballs. The downside of spring in Augusta: POLLEN. Lots of it. The North has snowdrifts; we have pollen drifts. Yes, really. A grape holly bush. Succulents begining to flower. My work will appear in the "Storytellers" exhibition at Clayton Galleries in Tampa - this is taking place during the NCECA (national ceramics) conference. All of the work in the show is figurative. The photo at left shows 6 small works hung together. Each is 8 x 6 x 1 inch, and consists of a white clay, handmade tile on which I've drawn an image with underglaze pencil. I then finished each tile with various glaze treatments and finish fired it. Each tile is mounted on a piece of hardboard that has been worked with paint and attached fabric. Also appearing in Storytellers: Red Figuring Vase (my work) Terra cotta with underglaze and glaze Also in "Storytellers": Blue Woman Vessel (my work). Terra cotta with underglaze and glaze I like the softened, curved, used quality of this book - and the mixed cultures that it represents. This is a Hebrew lexicon carried by David Brainerd, an 18th century evangelist. He founded an Indian church in New Jersey. This cover of the book was repaired with an otter skin with an Indian design painted on it. The book is held in the rare books section of the library at Princeton From http://blogs.princeton.edu/rarebooks/noteworthy_holdings/ |
